9 a.m-5 p.m.

Mission San Juan Capistrano is again partnering with Homefront of America to display American flags in the Mission courtyard in celebration of Memorial Day. More than 400 flags, each standing at 7 feet tall, will be available to view. Active-duty military, veterans, first responders and Mission Preservation Society members will receive free admission to the Mission during the Field of Honor display, which runs through May 30.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY
Old Mission Historic Cemetery, Los Cerritos Street, San Juan Capistrano
10 a.m.

Join VFW Post 3801 in honoring fallen veterans. All veterans and people in San Juan Capistrano are welcome to attend. The ceremony will be held at the historic graveyard in San Juan Capistrano, just off Ortega Highway across from a Shell gas station. Bringing lawn chairs to the event is recommended for attendees.
 

DANA POINT MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY 
Pines Park, 34941 Camino Capistrano, Dana Point
10-11 a.m.

Join the City of Dana Point in honoring fallen veterans. A special presentation of the Marine Corps’ traditional Empty Boots Ceremony will be held. Presented by Dana Point VFW Post 9934 and the City of Dana Point.

SAN CLEMENTE MEMORIAL DAY OBSERVANCE
100 N Calle Seville, San Clemente
11 a.m.-Noon

Join community leaders at the San Clemente Community Center to commemorate fallen veterans. Members of the public are invited to bring memorabilia of their fallen loved ones to exhibit at the Memorial Display area. Seating is limited, and attendees are encouraged to come early in order to find parking. The keynote speaker is Lance Corporal Keene Sherburne, retired from the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines. Email [email protected] if you know a deceased service member who should be honored at the event.


MEMORIAL DAY REMEMBRANCE AND PLAQUE DEDICATION
Park Semper Fi, 622 Avenida Del Mar, San Clemente
2-3 p.m.

The Heritage of San Clemente Foundation will hold a ceremony at the Marine Monument at Park Semper Fi to dedicate a bronze plaque in honor of the 13 Americans—including 11 from the 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines based at Camp Pendleton—who were killed in the August 2021 attack on an airport in Afghanistan. All active and retired armed service members are invited, as is the public.
